Greetings Plano! Welcome back to the ongoing dental health blog of the Plano Smile Studio. At our comfortable and modern office, we pride ourselves on offering comprehensive dental solutions for patients in the greater Dallas-area. One of the most popular solutions we offer is Invisalign orthodontics for adult and teenaged patients.

Recently, a mother and her teenaged daughter came into our office. Both of them were suffering from crooked teeth which made them embarrassed to smile. They had both considered traditional braces but had some hesitation about undergoing traditional orthodontic treatment. At Plano Smile Studio in Plano, TX, we were happy to get them on the path towards healthier and more attractive smiles.

The mother was worried that her employees wouldn’t take her seriously at her small business if she was wearing braces; her daughter didn’t want to look silly at her high school. So we sat-down and evaluated their smiles for Invisalign and Invisalign Teen. We found that not only were they both candidates for Invisalign, we also they were extremely excited about the numerous benefits offered by Invisalign.

In the next two posts of our dental health blog, we’re going to look at some of the many reasons our patients choose Invisalign and Invisalign Teen instead of traditional metal braces. Let’s get started!

Reason #1: Invisalign Offers More Comfortable Treatment

Traditional braces use antiquated technology to realign your teeth. Metal brackets are bonded to the front of your teeth, and wires and bands are then used to straighten your teeth. Although traditional braces are effective, they can also be painful.

Many wearers of traditional adult braces complain about a pulling sensation on their teeth. This discomfort is increased during the numerous adjustments required with traditional adult braces. The brackets can also scratch the inside of their mouth, leaving them with bloodied lips and tongues.

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are the next generation of braces. Instead of uncomfortable metal brackets and wires, Invisalign and Invisalign Teen use clear aligners to gently reposition teeth. The custom aligners are smooth and won’t cut up the inside of your mouth. In addition, there are no painful adjustments required with Invisalign or Invisalign Teen; you just move onto your next aligner.

Reason #2: Invisalign is More Attractive

The appearance of traditional metal braces are generally the biggest complaint among patients undergoing traditional orthodontic treatment. Older patients are worried that they’ll look foolish in the workplace. They dread the idea of walking into their workplace with a mouth full of metal and wires. Braces are associated with immaturity, which can translate into their appearance.

For teenaged patients, the concerns are extremely similar. A sad truth is that high school can be environment filled with bullying and teasing from their peers. Many teenagers are worried that they’ll get made fun for wearing traditional braces.

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are a much more attractive option for patients concerned about their appearance. Both Invisalign systems use a series of transparent aligners to correct misaligned teeth. Invisalign is designed to be invisible in your smile; your orthodontic treatment can be a secret between you and your dentist!

Reason #3: Invisalign is Faster

Traditional orthodontics require a serious commitment in cost and time. Most patients have to wear their uncomfortable metal brackets and wires for two years or more. That’s two years to worry about what you can and can’t eat, and two years to worry about looking silly. It’s an extremely serious commitment.

Invisalign and Invisalign Teen can greatly reduce that amount of time you spending undergoing orthodontic treatment. On average, treatment with Invisalign takes about a year. That’s about twice as fast!

The total duration of treatment depends on the orthodontic issues Invisalign is being used to correct. Some patients wear their Invisalign aligners for less than a year; some patients have to wear their aligners for slightly longer. However, almost all patients can shorten their treatment time by choosing Invisalign.
